Winemakers Tasting Notes
Our 2014 Pioneer Series Gewurztraminer is comprised of fruit harvested from our Home Block Vineyard on Dunstan Rd. Filled with spiced apricot and floral notes, we leave a touch of residual sugar in the wine to balance the natural acidity and provide a beautifully rounded texture. This wine is delicious to drink on its own and is also a fantastic companion to many different foods. Thai, spicy Chinese, Mexican and Indian curries are all potential matches with this delicious wine.
Shaky Bridge wines is located in the stunningly beautiful Alexandra Basin of Central Otago, New Zealand. Our source vineyards are situated below the 45th parallel in the southern most wine growing region on the globe. Our location is ideally suited to the creation of the aromatic varieties of white wine, alongside Pinot Noir which is our primary variety.
Sourcing fruit from 6 distinct blocks that vary in age from 10 - 30+ years, Shaky Bridge owns one of the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in Central Otago. The various locations, soil types and clones used within each block provide our winemaker, Dave Grant, with a virtual painters pallet of flavours to create multi-dimensional wines of exceptional quality, depth and satisfaction.

High quality Gewurztraminer grapes were hand harvested, lightly de-stemmed and crushed into stainless steel fermentation tanks for a brief 24 hour cold soak period.
We fermented the wine at cooler temperatures to preserve the highly aromatic characteristics of our grapes. We lightly filtered the wine prior to bottling. Simple winemaking = delicious wine.
