The Shaky Bridge Brand Family

Shaky Bridge Wines has a dynamic, diversified portfolio of high quality wines at different price points. We deliver exceptional value for money in all of our wines. While this sounds like a simple philosophy, we go to great lengths to ensure every bottle of wine we produce will meet your expectations of quality for the price you have paid.

Situated in the southern most wine growing region in the world, the Alexandra Basin of Central Otago, every Shaky Bridge vintage is greatly influenced by the growing conditions during the year. As much as we try to get the very best out of every vineyard block we manage, mother nature can work against us from time to time. Due to the natural impact of weather on our vines and the grapes harvested, our portfolio of wines allows us to ensure the highest quality in each brand tier.

Only our very best fruit is used in our Artisan Series wines, while any grapes not reserved for the Artisan Series are used in our Devils Backbone or Pioneer Series wines. Our new 'BBQ Wine Co.' label is reserved for wines we want you to have a bit of fun with! Our BBQ White 2010 blend of Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Chardonnay is a delicious example of what we mean! Sometimes you just want a tasty glass of wine that doesn't cost too much; that's when you reach for wine from the BBQ Wine Co.

Shaky Bridge Artisan Series

Our Artisan Series wines lets us show the very best of what we do. We laboriously work on the source vines for these vineyards year in and year out, hand pick the grape clusters every year and use time honored handcrafted winemaking techniques in the winery.

Our Shaky Bridge Pinot Noir comprises Pinot Noir fruit from some of the oldest vines in Central Otago. These vines were orginally planted in the late 1970s on our 'Home Block' on the Eastern side of our winery. Similarly, our Shaky Bridge Gewurztraminer is sourced from 30 year old vines, giving our Gewurztraminer fantastic intensity, beautiful balance and impressive structure. All the wines in our Artisan Series are not to be missed!

Notes From The Winemaker

The current releases in our Artisan Series offer exquisitly gratifying wine drinking. The components of our 2007 Pinot Noir, with nearly three years bottle age at the start of 2011, have married beautifully in bottle to provide one of the most layered, rich and complete Pinot Noir wines we have made.

From a lighter vintage in 2007, we had enough new oak to follow our usual 30% regiment. Given the lower volumes of the vintage, the amount of new oak in the 2007 wine is closer to 45%. Highlights of vanilla and toasty oak flavors combined with our classic Alexandra minerality and elegant fruit profiles make this a delicious wine. I'm as excited about this wine as I am about releasing our 2009 Pinot Noir in mid 2011.

The 'aromatic' wines on current release include our 2008 Gewurztraminer, 2009 Pinot Gris and 2009 Riesling. In keeping with our Artisan Seris philosophy, fruit for all these wines is handpicked from our carefully managed Home Block vineyard. If you enjoy these aromatic varieties, you will find the very best of Alexandra inside each bottle.
